Either way, its unforgivable how they strangled the poor SL6 and failed to update it by 1983.
It certainly is, especially since they engineered and developed the updates...just didn't put them into production. :-(

AND we got the 3.9 offset-crank 90-degree paint shaker as a replacement :-(

Have you told me about the updates that were developed before? I don't remember that story, and I *think* I would...

One of my favorite sources of engine paint:

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/engine.html

I don't see a Chrysler yellow there, unfortunately.

FWIW, DE 1619 "Chrysler Green" is actually the late-60s big-block turqouise.

<rooting around for a photo of a DE-1619-painted 440 I have somewhere....>

Aha:

It looks "bluer" in the digital photo than real life. DE-1619 is a pretty good match to the original color, *maybe* just a hint bluer. IMO, most of the DupliColor colors are reasonable matches, and the paint seems very good quality.
Nice C-body... '66 Fury? Glad to know that's turquoise, I suspected it was, but since it's an "order item" everywhere I go, I went with MP engine paint last go-round. I wish you could still get it in Plastikote... I prefer the finish over Duplicolor.

Here are some more. Sorry they aren't posted, I linked them to keep the page load time down for dial-up users.

Longblock - Front

Longblock - Passenger

Longblock - Driver This one shows the headers completely. However, in this picture they have not been powdercoated yet.

Nope, seen lots of blue-from-factory hydraulic engines in '81, '82, and (I think) '83 cars.

How many engine plants were there?

Is it possible the transition to black was spotty?

Super6, I've said it before and I'll say it again: I *REALLY* like how your yellow engine came out. Much nicer than the yellow one I put together in my (departed) '65 Canadian Valiant. You used a more saturated yellow; mine was a more washed-out color closer to what MP sells.

Magnum_440, WOW, that engine bay looks SWEET! Much cleaner than when I was down there and saw it in '02.

Step, Very good point on the different engine plants. There are even differences in the colo(u)r of red used in different plants in the '60-'68 era. Some were much more orange-y than others, even in the same production year. Also note, different size engines got different reds; there were a lot of slant-6s that got a darker red than the relatively bright red used on similar-year V8s. I found a really excellent match for the darker red: NAPA Farm Equipment spray paint, made by Martin-Senour, "International-Harvester Red". That was 13 years ago, though, so the formula may have changed and maybe now it's better/not as good/not available/???.

All this talk about "reds" is bringing back some bad memories.
