Just found this post recently,...

( L )onsdale Engine Plant, ( VE ) series, ( 8 ) High Compression, ( D ) series block casting.

So it's a slant that was cast in the Engine Plant at Tonsley Park in Adelaide, making it a genuine Aussie made motor.

It's out of the VE body style (RHD) version of 67-68 Dodge Dart.

The 8 is the specification level - high compression head and two barrel carter carb, for 160hp stock and 215 ft/lbs torque.

The numbers at the end are the engine number, 9178.

I have one of these motors sitting my '66 VC Valiant, 060 overbore, waiting on getting its original head match ported to my Clifford Repro HyperPak, and currently running a stock refurbished head and two barrel.
