I never had a torsion bar break but did have one break away from a rotted frame which has the same effect. I was only going about 35 mph. I'm glad it wasn't 70 mph because I think I might have lost control especially in a curve or on a wet road.

Never even in my wildest dreams I got a torsion bar break, even both of them got a lot of marks.

menko-
i don't think you'll have a problem using those bars. you could just buff those scratches out with a scotchbrite pad on a die grinder and the stress riser issue should be greatly reduced. what number bars are they anyway? are these slant six bars? if so they aren't anything special. i have several sets of good used / bars that i could swap you out for if you are really worried about them.
just don't go and try to resell them for $150 like someone else!

hi james,

nah these are the 892/893 bars. The scratches are definitely not just surface ones that I could buff out. They are probably about .10" deep or more. The picture I didn't post is on the other end of the bar, where there are 2 1" long or so flat spot from what I presume was a t bar tool remover.

The guy wanted them back and sent me my money and the cost of shipping back, so I guess he'll sell them to someone else. They were cheap, so if anyone else wants them, I'll give you his contact info if you pm me. Shipping was $8 via fedex but we're both east coast area...probably the same shipping zone.
