Hi Paul, I still wished I had my dart swinger back also. I didn't know much about tinkering with a slant six back at the time either. It had an engine from a plymouth volare in it complete with the super 6. Had 350k on it and ran well actually but it smoked a lil' --hmmm wonder why?? Either ways I bought it from an old man and gave him $100 for it and had gobs of fun with it! It was a 1973.....Would have made a nice car. Needed cash at the time, you know how that is And If I had a dart with 3.91's in it, I would have probably gotten in trouble with it Todays Update: 71 Duster... *Mopar 6 into 1 header *Offenhauser 4bbl. intake *Edelbrock 500cfm carb *2.5 single exhaust w/dynomax bullet drag muller (intresting sound really, screams when you wind her up!!) -Still messing with transmission kickdown and timing I'll try to get to the track next week and post some #'s , a.s.a.p! Regards - Michael |

Those upgrades should really help you out. Are you going to try and travel to any of the remaining races this year or will you regroup for next.I'm hoping/planning to make Indy still, but it remains to be seen if my race car will be able to make the trip.(oiling problems, untested tranny, funny noise in previously quiet rear end) I don't think my truck is worthy to tow that far, so we'll just have to see if I can get the motor back out, fixed and back in + test everything. If we could both make it to Indy, it might be a pretty good match to dial heads up in the first round for rookie of the year honors. With your car running so reliable, I'm not sure I have much chance, but I could have a good day |

Post subject: | Trans still needs work... |
Here's what Im currently at as of now...I ran the duster and hit an 11.39@61 w/an .05 r/t. A 6mph improvement over the stock holley 1920 1 barrel combination and stock exhaust manifold . But It could have been better if the tranny wasn't still slippin. Next mods include manual valve body, headwork and comp cams 260h. The 2.76' gears are really hurtin my Et's so I believe some 3.55's are in order. Some weight reduction coming soon to. ... Hi Paul, I would like to make it to Indy and will try to if possible. And a heads up race would be great. But like most people I will see if that trip would be in the budget. I agree that it would be fun to go anyways. Get that Aspen a rollin!! Regards..Michael |

Removed about 40 pounds worth of stuff from the dusters interior. So now the interior is really gutted!! Coming soon: 5 inch tach and racing buckets on the way. You know the next steps, bird cage and fuel cell!! The '73-225 is still in progress as well. More to come so stay tuned! |

Post subject: | Seats in.... |
The racing buckets are in! We have removed about 128 pounds of stuff from the dusters interior, well -if our scale is right on. The seats look great and the bench we took out was in excess of 80 pounds! . We finally have got the trans kickdown to shift corretly, This thing has got some grunt! Added a motorvation carb spacer from summit(89.95) that really helped my low end performance! stay tuned!! |

Post subject: | Getting there slowly.... |
Took it to test and tune tonight and the cars best run was an 11.19@61.96. Me and my best friend John are still working with carb tuning and some light traction issues, lol. The distributor is in dire need of replacement also. I know there's a little more lurking under there. As mentioned before the short block including camshaft and head are completly bone stock 1975 originals. About time to start saving cash for an 8.75 rear and some 3.55's!! |

That's good improvement for just weight reduction and a carb spacer. Looks like you are going to be even harder to beat next year. Quote: The distributor is in dire need of replacement
If you need any help with that distributor, just ask.

Post subject: | Thanks Paul... |
Thanks my slant six friend. The car isnt doing to bad at all really, but I'll just have to keep tinkering with the combination and figure it out a piece at a time. Well I dont know about being harder to beat next year, lol. But I hope to have fun and surprise people with the dusters new combination. Going to Farmington race next year?? I'll be there... You seem to be making progress on the aspen as well which is great, I ran our '77 bone stock aspen and got 12.50 out of it using a carter bbd from a 318---which works great btw. Either ways keep on wrenching and hope to see ya soon. I may also be contacting you about a distributor quicker than you think.... |

Replaced the edelbrock 500cfm carb with a donated 500cfm holley 2 barrel (#4412-3) and can't believe the difference... Took it to Farmington and didn't even turn a screw on it. It ran a best of 11.05 still with the stock 2.76 peg leg rear and everything else practically stock. The car will light the right rear with little effort gets decent gas mileage. Seems much more drivable with the holley. |

It ran an 11.00 here at Wilkesboro's test n tune last thursday but couldnt run it on saturdays wilkesboro race due to the radiator going bad and causing overheating.... At the previous race at Farmington I got a 10.85 on slicks! |
