Today is a magic day. Today I paid the remaining amount of my bill to DG motors in ST. louis park, and took my baby home.
The paint didn't survive the hot tank but thats okay.
now she is .060 over stock bore,
rods are magnafluxed, cleaned, balanced, and shot peened, turns out there was a 14 gram difference in one rod to one other, and one was bent a bit,
block had to be line honed, which I didn't plan on doing but it turns out needed to be done since the engine had been sitting unassembled and the crank would no longer spin freely when set in the mains. (thats $200 extra I didn't plan on.....
)crank has been balanced and polished,
and the block got decked .065. this brings my compression (along with my head work) to a respectable (in my opinion) 10.4 to 1. I had been shooting for 11 to 1 but the machinist talked me out of it due to having cast pistons.
they really seem to have done allot of extra work for me since they knew I was on a budget (multiple assemblies and talking with me for hours on end about what I wanted to achieve). This guy knew more about engines than I will ever know.
now I am doing the assembly myself. two reasons being: I can't afford having someone else to, and I really want the satisfaction of doing it myself.
I need a new torque wrench though........dammit.
