I have been reading Tom Condran's book, and on Page 102, he says that the 20:1 option in the car was availible from the factory from 1970 to 1989.
Tom Condran says a lot of funny stuff that's not true in his book. It's a good guide for principles of undercar improvements, because most of his theory is correct, but he is totally out to lunch on a lot of parts and equipment sourcing and factory-usage info.

He also said he would be updating and revising the book as better data became available. That didn't happen.

The info in that box may not be correct as I've obtained a 20:1 box and front sway bar out of a 66 Formula S. It's definitely quicker than the other boxes I have (and no, it's not for sale - it's slated to replace the 24:1 box in my 65 Barracuda).

Sway bar as factory equipment in a '66 Formula S: Yes.

20:1 box: No.

The fast-ratio manual box from '65 to '69 was 16:1, that is 3-1/2 turns lock to lock.

If you did in fact grab a 20:1 (4-1/2 turns) box from a '66, somebody put it there after the car was made.

Hmmmmmm I will have to get it out and check turns to turns (which I didn't count). It did have the early Pitman arm on it which really doesn't mean a thing.

i bought my 20:1 gear from jim's auto parts for $125 about a year ago when nobody else could sell me one. it was either out of stock or on national backorder. i hate to see it almost double.
i put it in a c-body/van box (needle bearings, large sector shaft) with the intention of using it in my v-8 swinger but the tti headers hit the box since it's shaped differently, so i had to buy ffi's 16:1 box (aw shucks!). i figured with the 20:1 box and a fast ratio ('71 c-body) pitman and idler arms i would wind up with a 16:1 ratio at the centerlink (and still would have hit those headers with centerlink.)
i wonder if jim's still has some on their shelf for the old price.
