![]() I tried that with my truck for a little while, but she kept chewing through the cable and running off to terrorize the neighborhood. ![]() |

My slant truck has 3.25 gears and it gets about 13-14 MPG. It onetime got 18 when a vacuum hose cam unhooked (wouldn't shut off when you stopped either). 2.76 gears are pretty much the norm in trucks with V-8s and no overdrive. My 85 Silverado has a 305 4V with 2.73 gears and I have squeezed out 15-16 MPG. If I drive "normally" though I only get around 10-11. My 66 C-10 gets 8 MPG around town, on the highway, uphill, downhill, and pulling a trailer. It never changes. |

My old 82 D150 (may it RIP) with a slant and an a833 OD with 3:55 rear gears would get an honest 21 mpg running 65 mph on the interstate. But it wouldn't run much faster than 65 in OD anyway. Not much power in OD but you could always downshift to third if you needed a little extra grunt. Sure do miss that truck....my current 83 D150 with a 318, 727 and 2:76 rear gears gets a whooping 12-13 mpg-needless to say it hasn't been driven much lately unless absolutely needed. Todd |
