funny thing, i used to run fram filters and never thought i had a problem until now. in the oil filter study, it is stated that if you have a noisy valvetrain at startup, the fram ph8a is the culprit. well, as it turns out the fresh motor in my swinger had the very same symptoms (fram filter, valve noise) and have since gone away after changing the oil (same weight) and switched to a carquest filter. i guess i'll be staying away from fram filters drom now on.

I also didn't realize frams were garbage until operating them on my first slant six engine one hundred years ago - they really suck when used in the inverted orientation, because the anti-drainback valves are of piss-poor design and they let the oil drain back into the pan after you shut off the engine... Later, when I went to work at NAPA auto parts, we cut open all the different brand filters we could get our hands on for an in-store display, and fram was the cheesiest piece of crap for sure. It's been Wix (or wix manufatured, such as NAPA or Car Quest) for me ever since, but many of the other brands are of adequate design as well.
