Just to add to that. Recently visiting Cameron Tilley and then having him visit me, he gave me an earful about exhaust tuning. His 62 racecar makes, I believe, more power than ANY other naturally aspirated gasoline Slant in existence, maybe ever. He has a 2X2.25" into single 3.5" exhaust with a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. Weber 3X2s. Hard to argue with. Mind you, 3.5" is not needed on a "mere mortal" buildup. 2.5 or 3" are fine for almost all builds.

He has done hundreds of hours of dyno tuning with different exh configurations and he only uses dual headers into a single pipe w/ single muffler. Says that the power band is widened dramatically by getting pipe lengths right, w/o giving up top-end power.

I have a 2X2" into 2.5" with magnaflow muffler that exits just in front of the rear tire on my V. It makes the same power as having NO exhaust - just the headers into a 2.5" Y. This car runs high 14s in the 1/4.

I'll try to get some pictures of my setup next time I'm at a car lifter.

All I can say for those saying the sound sucks is: Go beg a ride in Bob Stepp's ratty silver '66 Dart 4-speed wagon. Ask him to accelerate onto a highway. Roll down the window, close your eyes and ignore the duct tape upholstery, and just by the sounds coming out of the car, you'll think "1961 Ferrari GT250 California".

...you need to go for a ride in the Duster - it sounds pretty bitchen with the ceossover pipe.

I agree with Lou. In the future, it'll be a big single exhaust system with a straight six for me. All the "rapping" tells me theres a bunch of dead air in there, and I want to keep the velocity up, not start/stopping of the flow.

very interesting to me, can you give any sort of equation you use to figure this out? I have been running duals (clifford headers) for years now, with the mufflers right before the axle with regular pipe (2.5) going over the axle and right out below the bumper

*bump*?

Just about ready for Dutra Duals and planning to run 304? Stainless all the way back, looking for a tuned exhaust shop.
