Got the manual box yesterday.

Is there any checks one should to to the box before putting it in the car? Theres no detectable side to side or up and down wobble of the shafts.

I opened the oil fill port and turned it upside down.... not one drop - but inside it theres a small amount chassis grease like consistency lube. Maybe replace the lower seal and pour in some 80w90 gear oil?

I looked in the fsm in both the lubrication/maintenance section and the manual box section but couldn't find any specifications. I believe I read on here before of people making concoctions of chassis grease and 80w90 gear oil. Or maybe I should leave the seal alone and just stick a grease gun nozzle in there put in a few pumps then turn it lock to lock - less chance of leaks that way.

Check how much adjustment is left on the screw at the top of the box adjacent to the fill plug. If you don't have at least a couple of threads' worth of adjustment left, the box is worn...

Ok, that was an interesting adventure - but the manual box is now installed with the flaming river shaft kit.

Good thing I stuck with a stock ratio - any harder and I would of hated it with a passion. The steering wheel I'm using is a couple inches smaller then stock so perhaps with a stock wheel it would feel a bit better. Its not terribly bad at all now, will take some getting used to. This will be my first manual car actually. I love how it feels at high speed in a straight line - not twichy at all.

Notes for anyone who cares to read them...

If you have clifford headers, to remove a ps box you have to either remove the front header or loosen it and lift it up (I chose the second option, I didn't feel like removing the intake and make the project more work. This opened up another can of worms though, I think I re-introduced a collector leak that I had before, grr)

If you remove the column from the car completely - make sure when putting it back in, that you align the bracket on the floorboard so the steering shaft is centered in the column or else when you turn the wheel it will make an awkward noise.
