Yep. I say clutch or if you want to be fancy swap in an electric one. THe plus side of clutch fans is that if they fail they will still cool your motor. |

Not always........ I've had them fail so that they turned so easily that the fan didn't turn fast enough to pull enough air... |

The MP fans that are sold as "high efficiency" fans were actually the STOCK fans on 1980s slant-6 M-bodies. Believe it or not- check the part number stamped on the "MP" fan with a stock '82 slant-six M-body! They are efficient fans, so they're a great retrofit to older cars, especially muscle cars that tended to either have fixed fans or flex fans (power hogs).would this work on a slant dumb question or not i dont know a thing about fans and patterns thanks dustin What the clutch they sell with that fan might NOT work on is early A-body slant-6 cars that have very little roome between the radiator and the water pump. But the FAN itself will fit on a clutch with a short shaft that is made for an early A-body. |

Every single failed clutch fan that I have seen has failed in such a manner that the clutch locked up solid thus making it effectively a normal fan. Noisy as heck, but it still cooled. |

There's nothing such as a clutch made for an early A-body. Very few A-bodies got clutch fans, and none of those that did had six-cylinder engines...

How much of a difference would a clutch fan make on a stock slant six that currently has the 6 blade fan (A/C). Would the horsepower/torque increases be enough to notice? |

Actually there is a big difference. I ran my Valaint for years with no fan....till last week when the boys who are freeked by such things installed a 6 blade fan off a 318 Satellite. The loss of power is quite noticeable.....but they would rather it cooled easily....KIDS! |

I haved used this one very successfully on various cars, and it doest suck the power that a steel blade one would either. It has to be this one though---the other ones with the smaller blades just dont cool---especially in the summer. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s ... &langId=-1 --chad |

We never idle in traffic (I live 2.5 hours and a ferry ride from the nearest stoplight) Since I upped the ante with the new upgrade motor it runs a little hotter when you run the piss outta it up long hills. Since its snowboard season the boys are always climbing big hills at low speeds. They freeked and added a WAY too big fan. (6 blade steel flex) I ran it for 4 years with no fan and only overheated once. (logging road with waterbars....18% grade) |
