Went to check it today to clean it, and it didn't come out. The spring came out, but no valve. So....do i use a metal pick or some such to get out?

Start the engine and it'll pop right out...............

That'll work! Just grab and yank.

Post subject:  So be it.

I'll pick up my little tools monday at work and then play under the car this week. Thanks all.

Post subject:  It IS overheating...

Being nice and warm out today i had the chance to take my boy to my friends house with me and therefor got to do a little driving in the process.

Well, guess what I noticed while we were sitting still. That's right, it is getting hot under there. Something that never happened even in the summer. I also noticed that the engine was a bit chattier than normal, and not the good kind of top end noise I'm used to when its running well.

So, hopefully, by Friday or Saturday i'll have a chance to get under the car once more and get that valve out and clean it, still need to get the rest of the chemicals for the flushing. The Kroil was ordered over the weekend.

Is this something I need to start seriously worrying about??

Post subject:  Shopping

Went Shopping for Chemicals this weekend, but due to uncontrollable circumstances, aka Fooooot-ball, I was unable to clean the engine out of all the happy gunk, nor get at the pressure valve thing-a-ma-jig. Found that Kano Labs, Kroil's distributor, is good, they sent me the gallon I ordered in under a week, and even sent along a free can of the aerosol Kroil. Also, that Advance Auto in the Pittsburgh area carries both Marvel Mystery Oil and Berryman b12 chem tool.

Have to ask though, the Berryman's only can in a smaller can, 12 or 16 oz, can't remember. Should I go back and buy more, I already bought 4 of them.

Um... generally when there's any hint of serious oil pressure problems, I wouldn't drive the car an inch until it's truly determined whether it's a bad sender, bad gauge, or really a problem.

IF it's really a problem, and if you've really been driving this thing all over town until you get a chance to look at it..... then you may be about to discover how much more severe the problem has become. Yowza. I hope not.

A slant six is almost bullet-proof. But not that bullet=proof. :?

...then there would've been thunks and clunks and seized engines long before now.

I'd love to stop driving the car and not have to worry about it. But that's not an option. This is my daily driver, and although its only to go back and forth from work, I still need it to do that.

And yes, its still alive, doesn't much like the cold, but hell, neither do I.

Yep it was the sender, got my hands on a nice oily replacement one and it fixed the problem. Also had some help shimming the spring in the relief valve area. So hopefully, no more unhappy oiling problems.
