Calm down everyone.
Here we go. There is absolutely nothing evil about sharing one's opinions as long as they are civil about it. I get so tired of the "he has a right" comment... Of course he has a right! No one, especially me, brought that into question. I just think he (and others) should know that everyone won't be thinking "cool, man" when they see his Swinger rolling around with big gaudy looking goofball wheels! (but I'm sure all of his peers with their goofball wheels will! ) I'm sure a lot of people think that a lot of my junk looks dumb as $#!+. They can feel free to tell me, maybe I need to know. Just trying to help out, you know? Remember the tale of the Emperor and his New Clothes?

Here's my two cents. I'm glad it's not 1973 anymore. Styles and tastes do change and there are plenty of restored to like new Mopars out there so I say have at it. Unless your selling it to a museum (unlikely) just do what you like. The whole gasoline powered old car hot rod thing has an ever shortening lifespan ahead of it so it's time to have fun now.

On modern tires, the sidewall on a 235/45-17 tire is about 106mm tall and these days that's plenty for rim protection and a reasonably decent ride. It's when you get down around 90mm of sidewall and less that ride and rim protection evaporate under you. I'd probably go with 16's but that's just the old fart in me.

And how did james longhurst find a set of good used bridgestones from a TL. Those things eat tires in 20K all the time.
you know the deal mcnoople, they were the "summer" tyres that had maybe 10k on them and were almost totally gone. :D click on the thumbnail above to expand it. you'll see there wasn't much left before i replaced them with 245/45-17 falkens. i had 2 sets of the lumpy el-42s that i just couldn't bring myself to use (talk about bad ride quality!) it's too bad acura didn't stick with michelins when they came out with that car. would have saved a bunch of complaints and i could have had better tyres!

17" wheels would look spastic on a Swinger. 16" wouldn't be much better.

Fair enough! But what's it got to do with running big gigantic wheels, besides the fact that it may be the one thing to keep you from doing such a thing?

I dunno? Lou Madsens 64 Dart looks pretty tough with 17 inch wheels and they obviously work well, just ask some of the mustang guys he's outrun on the roadcourse.
Btw,Im running 16 inch wheels on my 60 Valiant and have got alot of positive compliments but I dont think that I would go any bigger than a 17 on any A-body(Im actully lookin for a used set of Mustang Bullet style wheels for My wifes 63 Dart.).
Just my $.03 worth.

Nice park James...almost missed it ;) Oh and if you have 5x4" boltpattern, you have to get custom wheels made in 17" to fit that. Nothing non-custom larger than 14x7 that I know of.
