Then how come the Super six article on this site mentions the 2280 as a factory carb, next to the BBD.
'Cause the article's wrong.

No, the Quadrajet was made only by Rochester. Carter supplied various 4bbl carburetors in its history (WCFB, AFB, AVS, ThermoQuad) but Carter did not supply Quadrajets.

FYI,
Carter built Quadrajets for General Motors in the 1960's. All Carter-built carbs have "MFG by Carter" cast into the carb body. The carb number matches the Rochester number.

I had one of these and sold it 6 years ago, it was 'neat' to have a Q-jet made by Carter I had pulled off a Cadillac.

Probably should be edited to say that the 318 BBD will fit and the BBD was phased out and the 2280 replaced it on late 318's and could be used for the super six also...

I was (dimly) aware of those, but:

1) I was focusing on the '80s applications under discussion and
2) I wasn't counting those as really being made (i.e., designed, built and marketed) by Carter; they were just built there, using Rochester blueprints.

Holley carbs were used on '85-'89 civilian M-bodies (Diplomat, Gran Fury, etc.), but it would sure cause everyone a lot of problems if those were recommended for use in 2bbl conversions of slant-6s!
