Thaks for the thoughts! So today I took a look at my Slant 6 to see if I could find a tag or something that would identify which (if any) of the types of Industrial Engine it might be. I couldn't see a thing - just casting numbers on the block. Where should I be looking for an identification plate? Or is there some other means of determining the type? John in ID |

Good question. The ID numbers on car/truck engines were stamped on the block projection/boss at the right front of the block deck surface (directly below the frontmost spark plug with the head installed, or all the way outboard of the frontmost cylinder with the head off). But I'm not sure if industrial engines had those stampings. It's also quite unlikely you could pull any number off the engine that would tell you directly what duty-selective internal components were originally installed. But it doesn't matter all that much except from an academic standpoint, since you're rebuilding and can now pick and choose all the components you want! |

The Industrial 225 six in a Hobart G-400 Welder has an aluminum tag mounted to a steel plate by the number 1 plug. From the tag info: Model Type Serial H225- 605 E111898 can anyone tell me what year it was built? From the parts characteristics, I've narrowed it down to 1970 - 1974. Does the first 1 in the serial mean 1971 or is the "E" the date code? Thanks. |
