Once the door rides in the "up down position" not in the swing out position I think your car will probably "sag" in the middle and jamb the doors...Remember your car is a uni-body, and you have to crawl under there and gusset and weld the sub-framing together like the handler/drag crowd does to get the body to stay "straight". good luck, -D.Idiot  D/W |

At first you open your door noramally, then at a point just go up, so easy!!, sorry if this reply sounds a bit harsh, but I already got my father telling me that once again I´am totally nuts for thinking doing something to the old Duster, even is it is my car! Really people, I only need to know is those hood shocks can do the job (holding the door up and helping even a little to raise the door) or not. |

I say no. One hood shock wouldn't be able to do it, but two or three might. |

The only reason Italian exotics have doors that open that way is that they're so wide that normal doors would be a real pain in a parking lot. And I've been trying to think of a tactful way to put this, but if you don't know how to calculate the forces involved in lifting the door and don't already know how much force you will need, you shouldn't be designing your own system. I once had to design a spring-loaded counterballance for a lifting door at work, and it wasn't easy. A system that's designed wrong can have all sorts of screwball effects, from being too hard to lift to springs that apply so much force at the top as to make it hard to close. |

Well, thanks for the answers and comments, just to add, 2 shocks make it, I will try to get a shock from a Mercedes Trailer cab to reduce it to only one. |

just FYI: The decision was made to put lambo doors on the Tidewater Mopar Club '68 Fury convertible giveaway [raffle-off-for-charity] car; pictures of the process will be on our website at http://www.tidewatermoparclub.com in the near future. Our experts have done other (non-Mopar) cars before and assured me that it isn't that hard. They plan to reinforce both the doors and the body and to not use powered actuators; just gas pistons. |
