What about that "almost pegged" temp gauge? Or did it do that when you turned the ignition back on after having it off for a few minutes (normal gauge behavior unless you have an electronic instrument cluster regulator installed).

I checked the temp after I had pulled over and put it on acc.
Most likely it was as you mentioned, since I drove it around after I got it running again, and the temp was fine.
