The car still had the 1 bbl BBS on it when this happened. I put the BBD on this weekend and it runs Lots better. Doctor Dodge is the one that suggested it was the intake needle, said that the gas spilling over to the manifold was a symptom of the clogged needle. He was right. The reason it got clogged was (DUH!), I accidentally reversed the fuel filter when I was trying the get the fuel line to fit better by cutting some of the hose (the fuel filter was old and didn't have the arrow any more). I have a new filter and all new fuel line with the BBD. The needle just fit into the fitting on the BBS. I had somebody else rebuild my BBD, and he did a spectacular job.
Was this related to the gas spilling out of the carb and all over the manifold when it wouldn't start? Why would that happen instead of the gas flooding into the engine via the throttle bores? My current carb came with a strongly-worded warning about not messing with the fuel intake because it contains the hair-trigger needle, requires two wrenches to remove or adjust, and I don't know right from wrong anyway. The kit that I got said nothing about how to check out or adjust the needle position. Thanks |
