Since this thread is already started, I was going to ask a similar question/thread on whether or not to get the power booster when getting my stuff for the disc swap. I have all 73 Dart power disc parts and was going to ask if the power booster was necessary or not. I am using the stuff I got as "core" for doing my swap to disc over the winter. (calipers and MC) Seems the consensus of those adding to this post is against using one. (for better braking or not.) I have read and re read the book by Tom Condran on Mopar Suspension mods and he suggests not using a power brake system in an A body car. This is out of context, but " A-Bodies do not need a power booster with front discs. Install a 15/16' MC, 76 calipers, organic pads, and new rotors. Think system, and eliminate any need for a power booster". This thought is repeated a number of times in different parts of this book. Although I have the power booster setup, If you mix a non power MC with parts from a power assisted system, will this effect how it operates? I might just get the non power MC to save money and space under the hood. |

My donor car had a booster...I dumped that and got a manual cylinder for the same year. Works like a HOT damn. |

I bought a power system and did not use the booster after finding out the MCs that were shipped with my kit were the manual type. Just used my old manual push rod and used the MC off the booster. It stops good now. The pedal is about the same firmness as it was with the manual drums. |

It's the easy way to go and works great. You probably know to use a new rubber retainer for the manual pushrod? It may not have come with your power kit unless it was packed with the master cylinder. If you do not have one the bracket for the brake light switch is all that is keeping the pushrod in the master. It is possible to bend the bracket by catching your foot on the pedal if the pushrod falls out you have no brakes! Just something to be sure about so there are no surprises down the road. |
