Hi Charlie: Glad to hear from you and that you will be at Redding. The majority of the cars will be completely stock slant6 cars. That's what makes events so great. Lots of professional help via Doctor Dodge (Doug) and others. You get to see what others are doing with their slant6 cars . This is turning out to be the largest gathering of slant6 cars West of the Mississippi. We start time trials at noon so try to be there by 10:00am. Directions: Take I-5 North towards Redding. About 5 miles South of Redding you will see a sign to the Redding airport. Turn right off I-5 at the Redding airport sign and go about a mile. You will now be at a stop and at the entrance to the Redding airport. Turn left (going North again) and watch for the newer Mini-Gas Mart which will be on your left. At that stop turn right and follow the road around to Redding raceway. (www.reddingraceway.com). When you approach the entrance "booth" stay to your right and that will take you to the pit area and our large group of slant6 cars which will be under the large shaded oak trees. Thanks again for your support and that we can plan to see you on May 5th at Redding. You and others can always email me at waynee@dcsi.net or call myself, Doug or Glen Terry. (530) 345-4222 See you soon..Now we need just one more car to commit to comming to Redding to make the record.. Thanks Charlie..Wayne von Chico |

Howdy Wayne and others. Long time no visit for me - been busy with yard work. I have problems with the dang carb still and I'm counting on someone to help me tune this thing in for me when I get there. It doesn't seem to matter what I try, I can't seem to get it dialed in. I don't have a tack so that's part of the problem. The other is my version of a bracket to hold the throttle cable in place near the carb - I have it bolted to the side of the doghouse! I am still using my own version of a kick down rod - I used a piece of spring steel wire and put it between the carb and kickdown lever and then put a bend in it to make it work. It makes for an extremely hard throttle! Oh well at least it gets me from point a to point b! Trying to get it to idle back down has been a chore though. The kids and I are looking forward to being there and it should be a lot cooler than the last time we were there! Take care all and remember it doesn't matter what condition your rig is in - the bragging rights of telling someone "Well, the last time I took it to the drag races it did okay.", is priceless!! Later, Dan |

hI Dan: Thanks for your continual support. We have several other racers that bring the whole family and help out. I am sure Doug will give you some technical advise as well as Glen and all others . With that big 2 barrel , it should run much faster with the cooler weather this time of year. See you guys soon...Wayne |

You know Wayne - this is the first "club" or group or organization that I have actually been a part of. It's because of the support, friendship, family values and fun that this group has to offer. My kids refuse to let me sell the van (I have my moments when I've threatened to sell it because of the problems I'm still dealing with), because they are looking forward to driving it - and they love that it's one of a kind, and how all their friends think it's really cool LOOKING!! Can you imagine "the Brick" looks COOL??? There are lots of high school kids that comment all the time about it and my little ones hear it all the time. The fact that I race it justs makes it that much cooler to my gang and others. In a couple of weeks there is a burnout contest here in Corning and I have always told the kids that someday the van was gonna be in it. I am praying that with help from the guys at the race track, I can get it to do a decent enough burnout so I can enter the contest this year and not make a fool out of the van!! The guys at Schwabs would probably change tires for me to something cheap and easy to burnout with and blow up - if I can get it to do a decent enough one! Now that would add another dimension to the van and the slant!! The kids are so looking forward to the racing that there is no way we can miss it this year! The motor has been running over a year now! April 1st one year ago was the first time we got it fired up after I rebuilt it and it's still going strong! It's amazing to me to only have to change the oil twice a year and in between to NOT have to add a quart of oil every 150 miles!! I've only had to add maybe 3 quarts this whole year - but that's due to a valve cover leaking. And I have this board and the other slant 6 board to thank for it! I wanted a rebuild that was strong, would last long, and would be able to handle my "hidden teen-ager" when he came out once in awhile!! I talked with Doug - Skidderdriver - the other day and he is really swamped and can't make it. Too bad - he and his family would have a blast! Come on gang - just a few more cars to make it the largest slant meet/race in the world! ?? Looking forward to meeting new folks and seeing last years group again! Later, Dan |

The good news is the Valiant is substantially ready. The bad news, we just had two equipment failures that require production shutdown windows on a weekend. I am now a Tentative to attend Redding. My presence is required for this work. I've got my fingers crossed! Hopefully we can get the Impact to Manufacturing windows scheduled for the weekend of the 28th.... CJ 74 hooptie |

HI CJ...We are hopeing you will work things out and join us at Redding. Our "Killer Bee Team" which you will be a automatic member of, needs as many cars as we can muster. The Southern teams got merged into one team so we need to keep our attendance up if we are going to repeat as the National Slant6 Team Winner again for 2007. Drop me a email at waynee@dcsi.net when you get time . Thanks for the update Ceej, Wayne |

It is time to confess that I will not make it. Have to move my parents Saturday. I am contributing to the purse. (The check is in the mail Wayne.) I will be in Medford in June. See ya there. Go Killer Bees! Paul |

Hi Paul/CJ...The weather prediction for Redding is perfect.. A 10% on Friday and perfect for the races for Saturday. With the addition of Charlie / Tristan, Adam, Andrew and two new cars from the North State, (Edd and Sergio's 69' Dart) we should have the biggest turnout ever West of the Mississippi. Many others have cars that will be at future events and will be there in attendance to meet all of us and see what our racing program looks like. As you know, the hardest part is to get slant6 owners just to the track...With the help of Paul, Seymour, Ron, David others, we are getting a good cash "reserve" for cash payouts all the way through 1-8 places with side $$ incentives for reaction times. We welcome all "contributions" from any 'bench racers' or those that can't make it out West to watch us race....Thanks Paul for your contribution and see you at Medford on June 2-3 and then at Redding on August 25-26. The "Killer Bees" are swarming...Swingin' Six from Chico |

Well I'll be towing the car up there to redding but it might have to stay on the trailer. It has developed a rod knock, i will go threw all the adjustments on valve train to make sure its not a valve hitting the piston but it sounds deeper than that. This engine has only seen 3000 rpm and mild driveing. This is a big let down but again I'll be there with the car nonetheless! |

Hi Tristan: It sounds like it may be the converter bolts 'backing off". We had the same problem and thought it was rods also. Just needed to tighten the convertor bolts after putting "blue" lock tight on them Easy to fix if that is the problem. See if you can get jack up the car and double check that this is not the problem and tighten them up using off set box end wrench. (11/16 or 3/4"..can'tremember.) Can't wait to see your car..thanks for your support..See you at Redding. |

I just went through this. If they are the 5/16 converter bolts, it will be a 9/16 wrench. BTW, if your converter bolts are messed up, I have some new ones I haven't used, I will have them at Redding.

Hi Guys and Gals. For those of you who missed the race this weekend in Redding, sorry to hear that. My Dart wasn't up to making the trip, so instead I took my camcorder and digital camera. I hope to make up a good video for the guys and gals. This was my first time there, and for those of you who missed it, you missed the following: 1) Meeting Doctor Dodge in person, and seeing though this guy has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience, he is the one of the most humble and generous people I have ever met. 2) Seeing DD helping many people there with their setups. Including showing one how to do a valve lash adjustment. 3) A Slant Six in a 1970 Dodge Challenger. Yes, we got to see an original 1970 Dodge Challenger with a Slant Six. It was special order. The car only had 90,000 original miles on it. But it was neglected for years. A new slant six sat in there. But what a site to see. 4) Seeing a first timer to the event run a 23 second run, and have the biggest smile on his face. When he ran a 22 second run, in eliminations, since he beat his time, he was eliminated. But you would have never known it. He had the time of his life. 5) Seeing cars run from the mid 12s, to low 23s. It was awesome to see a few of them under the 15 second range. And it was great seeing that many stock cars there. 6) And we all felt our hearts drop, when in the final race, one member of the team had his car break down. That was the last thing anyone wanted to see. 7) A great group of guys, that I had the pleasure of meeting. It was almost a family outing. Seeing a female driver make the semi finals. And she was taken out by the eventual winner of the event. 9) A nice payout for the winner. All in all, it was a great day for me. I really hope more of you get involved. With bracket racing, speed is not the factor. So stock or race car can win the event. It's called skill at the line, and luck at the finish. When Wayne asks you to come to any future events, try to make it. You should enjoy it. And with any luck, what you think isn't a race car might make you some bucks. And in the process, have the time of your life. |
