Have you checked the water pump? And the alternator? |

Yes, I checked them both by removing the belt, same noise. |

I have wondered about a wrist pin, would it just go bad like that all of a sudden? |

I've never heard a wristpin squeal, but they will knock. Maybe one has slid out and is eating a cylinder wall. You should have seen evidence of that when you pulled the pan though. A galling rocker will sqeal like crazy, but I've never heard one knock. |

Crank damper looks fine, not crooked or anything, I am not sure what to look for regarding it. |

In the process of taking the rod end caps off to check bearings, I messed up the bearing tab that keeps the bearing from turning. I need one rod bearing. Is this something I can buy one of? Does anyone on the board have one I could purchase? This is what was on the bearing.....ACL 020 4601 30JL99 |

Never mind, I just looked at prices on ebay, 11-15$ for a set. Will I have to possibly file the end of the bearings to get the correct fit? I have never replaced a bearing before. |

Bearings should not be filed. They have to be ordered by the size of the crank. ince your old bearing is stamped 020 I would believe that they are .020" undersize. ![]() |

Send me your mailing addy in a PM. I should have an extra 20 under bearing in a broken set, you can have. I will have to look, later today. PS: what year is your engine? Is it a cast crank or forged crank? you can measure the width of the bearing with a ruler, and list the width, if you are not sure. |

Well, I pulled all the bearing caps off one at a time, no spun bearings there, I pulled the main bearings off, they were good. While I was laying under the car, crying, I thought...NO, couldnt be that simple. I got a wrench and was able to tighten all 4 bolts that hold the torque converter on the flexplate. Put the pan back on, added oil, started the car. Knocking noise is gone. I know several of you told me to check the bolts, but I was sure the knock was from inside the engine. I almost didnt post this, hopefully it saves one person from having to do what I ended up doing. From now on I will check the bolts. When I add oil, I will check the bolts. When I replace the air freshener, I will check the bolts. Thankyou all for your posts, we shall not speak of this again. ![]() |
