at idle should i be shooting for as high as possible or?

If you have 30 at just above idle and things are fine, that's ok....what do you get when you run the tach up to 2800 rpm?

Post subject:  Advance?

Anybody know where you can get a 15 or 16R vacuum advance?
THe highest I can find is a 11R advance.

If they still exist, where? and what is the part number?

Thanks

You can lengthen the slot in the arm that limits the travel in and out of the pot, with carefull work from a Dremel tool and a cut off disk, and make it any amount you want. Measure the slot, and do some match to figure a proportional amount to lengthen it. Simply slice a little metal out of the arm to lengthen the narrow part a MM or two, what ever the math tells you.

what is the formula to determine how much to cut out? thanks

Post subject:

If L1 is the current length and A1 is the current advance let L2 be the new length needed and A2 the desired advance then the formula will be:

L2 = L1 X A2 / A1, assuming a linear relationship.

Post subject:  Tach

That tach deal concerns me. Most I've hooked up have had the following wires. Black - earth/ground, Red - positive/hot wire, White - dash lights, Green - trigger wire hooks to neg side of coil.

Hope that helps.
