Quote: Does the pan actuall need to be dropped to reinstall the cover or can it be done as is? The reason I ask is that I was able to get the cover off w/o damaging the bottom gasket w/o loosening the pan-wanted to know if it will go back together the same way?
I've done them without having to pull the pan (don't drop any stuff into the pan while doing the changeout), it's a bit tedious at times...there was one that I did that way and it was a high-miler and after I pulled the cover, did my business and tryed to put it back on with the 'new' front gasket it wouldn't line up right (the old seals were fairly compressed)...so that became a jack up the car, put on stands, loosen motor mounts, jack up the block, loosen the bolts, etc....good luck, -D.Idiot |

Got my parts from NAPA today-chain was at least 1 week too short, crank gear was used! Reordered-while I'm waiting-has anyone replaced this assembly re-using the bottom pan gasket. I'd like to do this w/o dropping the pan if at all possible. Anyone done this? I do have the new bottom gasket that came with the seal kit can the large chunks that fit behind the front of the block be cut off, do I reseal using the old gasket, or end up droping the pan? Mike |
