How much interest is there in a REALLY NEW HEADER?

I didn't mean to imply the exhaust manifold/header/dingus was responsible for the high output of the Jeep 4.0, just that it breathes well enough to support that level of output, is all.

I would also be intrested in the 6-1 header, i have one on my duster and would love to get onother for my dart. Just personal preferance nothing else!

well, if there ever is an option for a long '75 225 I'll be in. I don't own an early A.

It seems useful to me to define the term "early a-body." To me that means the original 1960-1962 Valiant and Lancer models. If you come up with a header to fit that application at a reasonable price them I am interested, otherwise it's of no use to me.

I'm using an iron manifold with a J-pipe, actually. I might want to switch to a header later - I could just have a few changes made to the J-pipe to make it fit, as the turbo's going to be on a solid mount. If the header's thick enough to use in a turbo application where it doesn't need to support the turbo weight, I would be interested. Especially if I could get it in stainless.

Dan, I like the idea of the block hugger design you posted there - especially the expansion joint option.

Hi Dennis,
It's nice to see there is someone out there who still believes in group buys, but with the way this thread has started...

Seriously though, something similar to the Clifford design would be great. I only have two concerns with this. One is ground clearance. I know that's not a major concern for drag racing, but it seems a lot of guys would end up using them on the street. Second is the possible use of a DCOE intake manifold which the Cliffords need some work to a couple of the tubes to fit. I have an extra manifolds I could send you to help mock things up. DCOE, H-pak, M-1 2bbl, etc. But Clifford has already done their research I suppose...

I don't blame you for not wanting to get too far off track with this project. You can't pull off this kind of thing and make everyone happy. I've seen a few nice guys get totally hammered on group buys. I trust your judgement on this one and I'm sure your friend knows what he's doing. Keep me posted on how this evolves. Thanks for stepping up.

Thanks for the work and inquiries, Dennis.

If it's a nice, improved version of the Clifford Shorties, then I would be interested in a set, or possibly two.

I would be even more, like "I'll buy 2 sets at least," interested if the primary pipes were 30-32" long. Mr. Tilley has done much dyno testing and likes this length for best all around power. This is shorter than the long Cliff's, but about 10" longer than the shorties.

Keep us updated...

a definition of the years it would fit would be great.

I need to admit my ignorance here since I don't own a early A, but could an early A header fit on a later one? I understand a 75 won't fit a 62 for example, but I was wondering about the other way around.

Early A is 63-66. I believe they will also fit 60-62, but I am not sure. Seymour has a set of Cliffords just like mine in his 62.

My Cliffords would not fit my 76 Duster w/ps and a/c. They would not clear the p/s box, and the outlet pipe ran into the floor under the driver's feet.

I have no late A-body to use for mock-up. My Duster has been cut so much that it is useless as a test bed.

Lou, that is kinda what I am thinking. A length in between long and short. I will prolly be in touch for input if this deal flies. The limiting factor will be if there is enough room to put the collectors down any faurther than they are now. Clutch/shift linkage becomes a major issue then.

Sandy, you'll be on the list. :D

Sounds great, D. Let me know how I can help. There should be room for collectors if the pipe banks cross each other in front of the clutch linkage.

Post subject:  Test car?

Dennis,

My son has a 72 swinger with 4-speed. He may be interested in a set but I'm sure if you needed a test fit for a 4-speed in a later A-body we could do that for you. He currently is running a 6 into 1 and it hangs pretty low for a street car. Let us know if we can help.

With my turbo, I suspect anything other than the shorty headers might make plumbing a bit complicated. But I could see that block hugger setup working quite well. The other choice would be the Jaggers header, but that wasn't ready when I started the newest work.

Slantzilla,

I have discussed a long tube design with my buddy, but he was not too keen on it. We will know more when he has a chance to look at my set of Cliffords in my car. I am hoping we can at least make the primaries longer than my Cliffords because I think they give up a lot of low end power. The Y pipe will be a larger diameter than a Clifford, he has already made one for another Slanter.
I am with you on your ideas. The Clifford shorties are way to short to be very useful and a longer "Y" pipe, larger in diameter would really help low end torque for more power down low. It would be better tuned for where the engine really is designed to excel and create power. Trying to make the engine perform over 4000 rpm is expensive.

Any news on this? I just found this thread while putzing around.
