I would personally advise against purchasing Venolia pistons. It is a small company and turn-around time I heard is not that great...Not to mention the few horror stories I have heard about them not even fulfilling the orders. Ross Racing Pistons was a great company to buy from. Of course they had to custom build my /6 pistons and thus were a tad more expensive...But it was a great product that came relatively fast....

I just don't get the hype over Venolia ladies and gentelman

You want the surface a little rough to promote suspension of the fuel in the intake side. Polishing an exhaust port is a waste as it carbons up almost instantly anyway. :D :D

I'm looking at the ERSON 280 cam, .465 IN/EX Lift. Do you think this will work fine? I am considering taking .100 off the block so I'm sure there will be some custom grinding and pushrods.

That is a good mild-ish street/strip cam. I made 200-220 HP with a crane version of that same cam, a 2bbl 500 Holley, good exhaust, and a good head. Stock shortblock and 8.8:1 comp.

If you have never tried a big cam, that is a good place to start. I use bigger ones myself, but everyone is different as to how much they can tolerate on the street.

Slantzilla was stating I could run .500+ lift. The next size up for Erson would be the 286/294 - .510 lift cam but the power range for this cam seems to be higher then what I was planning. I can tolerate a big cam, that's not problem but I don't want to run to big of a cam for my set up.

BTW - I just got my Offy 4 barrel this weekend.

With that heavy truck, you might be disappointed with the bigger cam at low speeds (takeoff needs revving). However, if you want max power, a big cam helps with that. 200HP does not require a big cam...

1.70 valves, .100 off the block, 4bbl manifold....I believe the Erson 280 with the .465 lift should be adequate.

Why do you say "used to"? Did you switch because of quality, price, lack of cam blanks, better cam found elsewhere?

I bought 2 of them from Merril Bruner years ago. I used one in my first motor and sent the other one to Charlie_S I believe. I ran it for 3 years and then replaced it with a .528" MP cam. It ate the gear off the oil pump in less than 800 miles. :shock:

Since then I have used a Comp Cams XTreme Energy profile, and then bought my 20 y/o used Clifford from Mike Jeffrey for $50. The car was gaining a phenomonal amout on spray with the Comp cam. We thought the Clifford would make it faster on motor only, but lose some on spray. It didn't. :?

It still gains over 2.5 seconds on a 150 shot. :lol:
