Terry, I never thought of that. I will go to a bigger cam. Unsure of which one. Now Rock has me thinking I should take off more, but I should cc it now to see what I have. |

Quote: I have heard of shorter pushrods being needed, with my luck I will rebuild the head, install it, and WHAMMO..... Russ should have installed the shims.
Like Terry said, cam base circle is a big variable. Valve stem height changes things too, as does rocker choice. I put a motor together last winter that had a big cam, tall valves, .080" off the head, and .100" off the block. I ended up having to get pushrods that were .250" short. |

Im worried about this subject also. I got my head back and they didn't mill all that much off maybe .025 just to clean and straighten it out. Now I use sbc 1.72 and 1.50 stock stainless valves and this tread is got me thinking what did I need to make all this work. The guy was"Yeah those new valves are quite a bit longer." So the idea of the milled rocker shafts is interesting |

i have alway used 318cid valves but they need to be shorten .150in and 1 keeper groove cut so i used double locks on both int/&ex, save money. the sbc valves i taught were close enough in length but you have to change your guides to 11/32in from stock 3/8in. |
