Entirely possible. It's happened with AC and NGK plugs. The Chinese have no qualms about violating patents, copyrights, etc.

I called autolite, and left a message. They called back today.. I was told that none of their plugs are made in China. They are probably counterfit.

Ron, if you still have a box or plug, call Lisa at 1-877-250-8361. They would like to hear from you first hand. They were unaware of the counterfit plugs.

Check out this NGK plug... 2477 ZFR5FIX-11 tapered ground electrode. About the same price as the 7781, ~ $7 - they have a version with iridium tip and platinum ground but thats more then $11.

The ZFR5FIX-11 does have an ultra-fine (0.6mm) iridium centre electrode, a corner-clipped side electrode and a gap of 0.044". It costs about 37¢ more per plug than the ZFR5LP-13G, which has platinum tipped centre and ground electrodes. Either should last a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnng time in a Slant, even with a high-juice DIS driving it.

That might've been true back in October '07, but it might not have been true. Every new box of Autolite plugs I've seen in at least the last 6 months, from Seattle to Toronto, has been clearly labelled "MADE IN CHINA". On the outer box and on the inner box. They're not counterfeits. Counterfeits of an American-made product would say "Made In USA", not "Made In China". Kind of like a counterfeit $20 bill doesn't say "Twenty Counterfeit Dollars". I think Ms. Lisa was probably telling the truth as far as she knew it, but I don't think she knew very much. It's plain to me that production of most (all?) Autolite plugs has been moved to China.
