I went and bought a used super coupe clutch on the cheap and it doesn't bolt up. not a huge loss. I measured the bolt pattern and I'm going to look into as many different clutch systems as I can that will fit that pattern. Actually my clutch is all in pieces I have the project car sitting there complete as it came from the factory with it's 68 slant 6 auto sitting their and my slant 6 bellhousing and parts sitting in the garage. ![]() thats my pressure plate with red springs |

Ok so I figure I'll just order up the centerforce clutch for the ford ranger. Is there any place that sells high performance rebuild kits for my borg & beck pressure plate? |

I think there are plenty of discs to choose from. The problem is more the Pressure plate and if you really like to walk on both feet, the Flywheel. I had a major clutch/ P.P./flywheel explosion and it ain't pretty. I feel lucky to have both feet. I know Doug had the same thing happen. So if you really want high performance , in my opinion, you need the whole deal. McLeod will make you a flywheel with the pattern for a stock slant 6 as well as a pattern to match a high performance P.P. The one we got was a diaphragm unit that has very a very light pedal too. Do a search and you will find the info. Greg O. has a similar setup I believe. If I remember correctly all 3 pieces were about $500. Rick |

ok so I looked up his old topic.(did a search never saw anything about McLoed before) if it's only 500 for the parts I'm sold on that. I looked up the parts to make sure they were still available and the only thing I'm curious about is the part number for the pressure plate that is said to be for a 3.7L is listed there for a 4.0L? It's also listed under Their "Workhorse" series is that right? and on the clutch can I end up using a racing clutch? number 5007-02 [4] 1x23 spline 10" clutch. it says it has a high coefficiency of friction. I never thought that my clutch would explode. thanks for bringing that point up. |

http://www.specclutch.com/ They have a 10" clutch listed for '65-'69 273s that is the same as a 10" slant clutch. It's a modern diaphragm cover with their own disc. $259 for the stage 1 kit that is claimed to hold 425 ft/lbs! Higher capacities are available for more money. Now I need a good flywheel. |

As in a good factory flywheel, or aftermarket? Not that I have a good factory one to spare, just wondering about how good a stock flywheel is. |

Good aftermarket. I'm not going to use a cast iron flywheel with the 170 stroker. I don't trust it to handle the RPM. |

How about 350 hp and less than 6000 rpm? Think a stock one would last?

It should last if your shifting at stock shift points. I don't think it would be rated any higher then that. |

If you are "beating" on a stick shift, with a modified motor, consider the consequenses, of a clutch/flywheel explosion. I have only had one, and that was enough. It was a 1960 Chevy Biscyane, with a 170HP 283 engine and a 3 speed, NHRA stock eliminator car. With hydro lifters, it would not rev over 5200 rpm, but pieces still came thru the floor. After the explosion, it got an aftermarket clutch/flywheel, and a scatershield.Greg has had this happen, also, on a slant. There are pictures of the carnage, somewhere on the site. |

Seen that carnage, but I don't remember it being more than the pressure plate/disk. Was the flywheel also in pieces?Have to search it up again. |

Here it is. No flywheel parts in the picture. Not arguing though, can't agree more that an SFI flywheel gives you a better chance to keep both your feet. Just struggling with the cost of a Mcloed flywheel. |

Even if there was no injuries, how much would it cost to repair the damage to the car/trans/rear of engine? I feel it is cheap insurance. |
