hi, i know about the engine challenge and think its great to test them on something other than race gas but the fuel we have is e10 (but when i test the % at the pump im getting anything from 11 to 15%)and e20 . 87 octane e10 for $3.10 . for the little we run/race our cars in summer and how much they sit during winter(4-6 months) the race gas works well for myself and friends. mercury marine has a great article about water absorbtion and ethanol and their engines on their site. ethanol loves moisture and my cars (some over 40 years old)dont have closed evap systems . the glass bowl holley 1920 on one car is great to watch for water absobtion with the ethanol. we put some ethanol in a 1 gallon jar with a lid outside for a few hours and watched it get cloudy from moisure vs same test with race fuel. i will use what fuel is available and best for me right now ,but would consider testing/using anything that becomes available. ron

hi, you can get a easy, pocket alcohol tester at any power equipment, boat , or chain saw dealer. they have them avalable to test fuel % #'s since no small or boat engine company can tolerate more than 10% without suffering damage in their fuel systems. briggs and stratton has had this tester part # 100023 $5 for 30 years. the newer b+s 2008 # will be 795161 when stock on the old # is depleted. tecumseh engines also have the same basic tester part # 670399 $5 . husqvarna and honda also have one. they are all roughly 3/4" round cylinder about 5 1/2" long . directions are clearly marked on the side. you add about a inch of water, and then fill to top with the fuel you want tested. shake it up and let sit for 5 or 10 mins. read the alcohol % scale on side and your done. easy to show customers that their warranty is voided if over 10%. been doing it for years and its nice to know the different % rates of gas brands and stations and how it changes during the year. thanks, ron
