It's going to be my street rod/good weather driver. I want it to be drivable, for going to work and on cruise nights, get decent mileage, and run pretty good. I'm going to drive it "mostly" as is this year, then the motor will come out next winter for a complete O/H with performance upgrades. While the motor is out I'll be doing the frame and suspension work, and when everything else is ready, body work and a paint job.Jess What creative things can I do with my dist? I'm just doing my homework now, and figuring out what I need to get to get it where I want it to be. I'm not overly concerned with the "exhaust cops". I plan to register it as a classic, and as long as I drive under 6000 miles a year it's exempt, and that darn speedo cable keeps coming undone :shrug: |

The "creative things" Lucky13 was talking about are to do with custom built-from-scratch fuel injection setups. Doesn't sound like it's within what you have planned for this vehicle, but perhaps someone on here will buy your 4-wire distributor for use in a fuel injection buildup. |

Dan,I guess I just lead a charmed life,am lucky or watched over perhaps.I had excellent luck with the summit kit,it's their house brand not the MoPar "brand" so I'm sure it's country of origin is,you know,over near china  The dizzy is working very well,thank you in my 79 360 4x4 and not one iota of problems with the others pieces on the /van.

I am not really reffering to EFI, But a cheap EFI could be used to have one of the best timing control setup that could be had. The Megasquirt system could be added to what you have, and it can drive the coil, or you can use a HEI to drive the coil and just let MS control the timing. This would also give the option of having other sensers if you wanted even though you would use a carb. Also you would alreading have things like electronic fan control, rev limiters and many other gizmos if wanted. If you added other sensors such as MAP and TPS data logging would be a big plus when tuning plus a wideband O2 senor could be added and the MS read it. Mostly as far as using MS to control the timing, it would be more work to hook up. Is it really needed, probably not. But it would be a good setup with no limit to controling the timing and have many added benifits to go along with it. This would not cost very much compaired to other options (although probably more) and would give timing control beyound any system you could biuld. If driving & performance is the goal it would be hard to beat and would work right with the dizzy you have. Depending on what other system was used, it might even possibly be cheaper. If you was to want to do as little as possible, a different dizzy, HEI and GM E-coil is about the hottest/cheapest way to go. The Mopar boxes, out side of durability problems, have timing control problems also. ABout every one I ever tried would retard the timing in the higher RPM range. For just a driver they are OK, but it sounds like your going to be looking for alittle performance so I would atleast step up to the HEI/E-coil setup. You can find a nice little setup on early 90's V6 Blazers. They have a little heat sink with the HEI module mounted on it that bolts to the bracket with the right coil, you can get both parts off the same truck. The same setup would work with the Megasquirt box also. If you was to ever plan to use any power adders ( like NOS ) the MS would for sure be a good way to go. Jess |
