Quote: Well, I guess there goes my ride. .....not necessarily. She has not had a ride in the car yet......I drove to town and all over it today....and back.....60 miles I have some driveline vibes to cure. The fan helped with cooling. I think I have a sticky caliper. The car is very easy to drive...has instant throttle response....and tons of midrange. I can still idle the car in 1st. It starts instantly. I have some midrange ping on the highway..... .....but darn its noisy inside....wind noise....road noise |

I got Jessicas 63 Valiant about all ready. I pulled out the dent in the rear, got the trunk to work, changed the rear end gasket, added fresh 90 w,royal Purple oil change.....then pulled the power steering pump-box, and brackets off....added a manual box to the car.....so I THINK I am ready.....we will leave next Wed. after work. Hey Kidd! Are you going up to wicked/six's place, or heading down I-5? We're planning to join up with TF and motor south through Nevada. Less crazy drivers than the California I-5 route? Maybe. TF: PM me some contact phone info for when we get lost. There's only eight streets in my town! I'm not used to them big cities. CJ |

Whats an alley? Burton can be confusing.....you have Burton Main Rd. and Burton Shool Rd. ...........thats it....in town. Luckily I live the other side of the bridge....not even in town. I keep thinking about convoying down with you guys....but Reno is way far west. I would have to go through Oregon with the 55 mph speed limit. Although Boise to Winnemucca is pretty fast....... Weather WILL BE the determining factor. |

Oregon dosn't have a 55 mph, it's 65mph and then you might get run over. |

55 MPH? When's the last time they gave you a day pass? Which way are you coming down? If your going to hit 80, you could join us in Reno for the trip down to Vegas! CJ |

I-15 is actually the easy fast way from here. I actually live west of Las Vegas. (Believe it or not I live directly north of Los Angeles) I would head east on I 90 to Butte Mt .....then south on I 15. I could go south on 97 through Bend etc but that is slow and the wrong direction. One other route is I 84 to Boise to Winnemucca then south...... |

Winnemucca to Battle Mountain, South to Austin, Tonapah, Goldfield and on in to Vegas. I've run that route several times. The Speed limit in Nevada is 70 or 75 on the paved highways, even 2 lane, so you can make some good time. Just watch for deer, cattle, and other large animals. I took out a yearling black tail doe just outside of Burns, OR, or maybe I should say she took me out. It was ugly either way. |

From Reno i have always run to fernley and caught the 50a to the 95a which runs into the 95 then its a long straight drive to vegas. What route are you looking at Ceej, either way i enjoy driving my car so as long as there is gas in the tank ill keep driving! TF |

Thats the only route to LV from here I have not done yet......so its prolly the one.I have done Winnemucca to Reno WAY too many times before. In the scheme of things (like how far I can get in one day) ....winnemucca is the end of the day from here.....Reno is part of another day. The other thing is.....Im no fun to convoy with. Im used to getting on the road 1/2 hour before dawn and going like stink (80mph+) till 1/2 hour after dark....no stops except for fuel. (ask Dennis) |

It's mostly straight, 2-lane asphalt except for the stretch on US 50 from Austin, over the mountains to where you turn south again going in to Tonapah. That piece of spaghetti is only about 15 or 20 miles as I recall. 80 mph is no sweat at all. I was running it at 90+ in the Dakota last time I went that way; dodging Jack Rabbits all the way. |

The route sounds good to me Tristan! We'll probably stay on I-5 till we get to Red Bluff, then scoot on over the hill. 97 and 58 should be clear, but I don't know how Richard feels about the east side. That's the route I like. We can turn faster on the five though. My last solid check on Fopar was about three pee-em yesterday. His engine was still on the stand, his Tranny was in a jig getting a front pump, and there was preparation for little kiddo's easter going on. Lot's of rug rats scampering about the Fopar Slant Six and Chinchilla ranch. If I don't hear something pretty soon, I may just motor down there to see what's going on! CJ |
