OK, I would shoot for 10:1 or so with stock pistons. You need to mill about 0.100" off the block and about 0.050" off the head (or some other combination) for that. You could also do an "angle mill" on the head. Ask for 0.080" off the manifolds side and 0.180" off the plug side and that will put you around 10:1.

With that, you can safely get a 0.500-0.550" cam and not have the valves hit the pistons.
