Post subject:  A couple of options....

One can heat the bottom of the manifold using water. Here is one set up:

Since 170s have no header choice Dutra Duals are probably the best option. There is another option. Despite the UGLY thread about the PowerPipe here and on FABO, I ordered a set. It is a nice pair of tubular manifolds. The welds are all nice, and they are set up nice and square on the mating surfaces. My engine is still at the machine shop, so I have not run them yet. After holding them in my hand, though, I am not ashamed to put them on my car. It is unfortunate how things went when they were introduced to this board. Handled very poorly by the people making them. BUT, when i contacted them, they actually responded (VERY un-Harold like) and I got them 3 days after I paid for them. memike, you were talking about these over at FABO, and that's actually what made me go ahead and get them. The dyno results are out there for the single connection PowerPipe, linked from their web page.

Anyway. More stuff out there.

That's the single pipe comparison. Not earth shattering, I agree.

Like I said, I've yet to run the double connection set I have, but there are no flies on the craftmanship of these manifolds. That's all I am saying. Lot's of hurt feelngs over a new part for a slant six that hasn't been produced in 17 years. (I guess 19 years in a car line) I'm just glad some people are still putzing around with these old power plants enough to see occassional "new" products available without people having to resort to special run group buys...which I have taken advantage of as well!

That being said, it was NO fight to get the parts like it was when I TRIED to buy headers from clifford or harold.

That's it.

I won't say anything more about this stuff until I have mine on a running engine and hooked to exhaust. I'm not here to sell the things, I just had a good dealing with the people and thought I'd pass it on.

Thanks for you thoughts and I picked up the 4 bl Offy intake up yesterday.
And bout a truck. I will be sending a 170 head to the shop as soon as I can get my hands on one and get it cleaned up a valve work and smooth it out, The way it is looking I may use the single power pipe fore a 63 valiant, I have learned allot about the 170/6 lower deck. :)
What kind of car are you putting yours in mopar_nocar?

I have talked to Frank 66aCUDA on the phone!
He sounds like a very pleasant and fun fellow.
He and Charrlie_s are going to keep me in line on my first
/6 build.
I will be making a short 1 hour trip to meet him and his wife.
He has a 225 mec head that we think I should build.

I got my Offy intake back from Phoenix Specialty Coatings and
Leanna did a great job smoothing it out and she picked the color :D I wanted to keep it looking like a new Aluminum intake.
Next to do on my list is take a fun trip to franks place and figure out what cam and carb i need to use on this 255 on a 170 block.

You can see it here or at Phoenix Specialty Coatings.

I felt like a kid again when I took it out of the box.
Thanks for all your time on the phone Frank :D [/img]

I can't figure out what makes these silly little engines so addictive, compared to a V-8 or something else. But I suspect it's US, rather than the engines... :)

Keep on slantin'!
