well i dont know what a 63 dart wieghs but i find it kind of hard to think. that is wieghs less then a 76 feather duster or dart light. since both are striped down, i know mine is stated as being 2,700lbs. on order with some newer sub-compact cars.

A feather duster is well over 3000 pounds. take yours to a scales and you will be surprised.
They aren't "stripped down" they employ some light weight parts. Aluminum is substituted for steel or cast iron but nothing has been removed. All the safety parts, which made the dusters heavier in 73 are still there.
Your feather is much heavier than my 4-door.

umm the car is striped down, no ac,no pb,no ps, yes rubber bumper mounts, alu bracing hood/trunk. the engine is still cast iron/ alu intake/1bbl.

according to this the "feather package" loses 200lbs. now from what i can find is that a stock /6 duster with ac/pb/ps is 3000lbs.

that would then place the feather duster in the the 2800lbs range. then according to thie artcile it was close to 2700lbs.

You can read and believe as much BS as you want but until you actually put it on the scales you will not know the truth. They are talking about a targeted shipping weight, reality is a feather duster weighs over 3000 pounds.

hello bubs- was reading your thread. interesting combination, 63 dart, 170 inch engine, 4spd. od trans and 2.93 diff. that would give you a final ratio in od of 2.15. thats the same deal in the 76 feather duster - think that was the best possible ratio combo for mileage, mine gets 25-32. only differences with yours is the 170 engine which is a little less powerful than the 225 in the feather and i think the feather is a little lighter than your 63. how does it run on the flat in od at lets say 35mph? the feather runs comfortably in od at 30 . plymouth also made a 2.45 diff. always wondered how that would run with the od in a duster. that would give a 1.78 final drive which might be too tall to drive comfortably even with a 318 v8 but that engine would negative the gas mileage. what do you think? regards bob fisher
Bob,
The Dart weighs in at 2700 lbs. pretty light and I have a 225 under the hood. It runs fine at 35 in OD in fact I was wondering at what the lowest speed before shifting into OD would be? I'm in the process of getting tires and I've finally decided to go with the same diameter to match original/stock because I remember how good my gas mileage was with the 13" 185/70/13 now that I have 14'' rims I can put 195/60/14 to match the 23" diameter. It's a daily driver with an occasional hwy trip so economy is my priority.

Unless you changed the speedo gear, the odometer is reading high, and you're not going as far as you think, and your mileage isn't as good as you think............

My 65 Valiant is 2850 road ready. Thats with aluminum intake, a 5 speed and aluminum bell that weigh 15 lbs less than a stock 3 speed. Alloy rims...lightweighr interior, mini starter etc etc.....There is no way a Feather Duster weighs less....non.

I bet your Duster weighs 3600 lbs.

Take it to the truck stop or the dump and weigh it.
