I have raced my car w/o that spacer in it for a long time and nothing happened.
Then why bother with a deep pan? I use a deep pan, with the extended pickup, and run the fluid at the add fluid mark, hot.
For the extra fluid capacity.
Why would you need extra fluid capacity? Not needed for cooling, if a good trans cooler is used. By using the spacer to lower the pickup, and running a qt low, you get the extra capacity, and also keep the fluid further away from the rotating parts.

PS: if I am not mistaken TFpatty has the dropped spacer for the dual pump transmissinons. I can use the singel pikup in my early trans, as I have a manual VB, and the rear pump removed.

Not ragging on you, just asking questions, and discussing this to learn. When I was 16 I knew everything, now at 66, I have forgotton a lot.

C'mon Charlie, you know this. Nitrous+loose converter+trans brake=you need all the fluid capacity you can get to keep from cooking a converter. :D :D :D :D :D

My Valiant doesn't have a trans temp gauge, but my Cuda has never seen over 180 degrees at the track. I have seen about 210 on the street after a 100 mile drive, with the 8 in converter.

Thanks for all your help. I took the spacer to a machine shop, and he did great, since I also gave him the filter to work with. I got it all put together, and it works fine. I appreciate all the help.
