I Agree dont give up - installing an engine in thes cars is quite doable by a private guy with the right kit

Don't give up on it....heck I had 384,000 on mine driving it 130 miles a day and only used about a quart to in 3,000 miles. I think mine probably leaked more out than it burned. I used Valvoline Synthetic oil.
However, on my new engine I am running 0-30W Mobil One.

It probably isn't that bad if you didn't use Penzoil or Quaker State.

How many miles do you have on it?

What kind of oil did you use?

You can always get a short block or long block from Spokane and drop it in over a weekend. Lot's good Napa shops around here that rebuild engines properly. I have seen a few come out of the NAPA in Renton and they were superb! I had the 410 Machine Shop in Buckley do my maching work and I would go down and help him and did most of the work my self.

Don't give up!

I'm with the others here,don't give up.Man there are enough of us slanters/motorheads around the northwest someone must have a good motor ready to drop in? If you could find a good motor don't see why we couldn't have a BBQ/work weekend somewhere,Oregon folks are doing that it seems,why not us? Just a thought,besides eveytime I see your sig-photo I always hear "Adam12 see the man" I love that Ply dude keep it,PM me for a pep talk.Hell I'd like it myself.

Do you still have the old head? If so, why not just put it back on, and save the new head for a new engine that you could build. I personally have 3 extra buildable blocks, and all of the associated hardware that I would be glad to give you if needed. I live in Salem, so its really not that far of a drive. I have never personally seen a Satellite with a Slant 6 in it, and from the pics I have seen, it is a really nice car.

I have seen one other like Eric's (a 1971 Bronze 2 door)... I saw his car when I went to a SSCOA meeting in Seattle (good way to break in the Hpak for the first time)... his car is in really good shape and he's a good guy... If I had the project funds, I'd buy his Satellite....

Stick with it, man... remember the 'Reedmobile'....

Eric, I'm with the others in that I would like to see you keep this ride. I know that sometimes in life, ya do what ya gotta do, but from what I've read, there are at least a few folks who could come and lend you a hand. I'm in Texas, so its a little far for me, but there are other members here who live closer.

You guys and my wife talked me into keeping it. I'll look around localy for a good engine....but I'll still have to look for somewhere to install it. Last time I swaped the engine it only took 4 hours with help. Just removed the hood, unbolted the transmission from the engine and pulled up. I'm up for a trip down to Oregon if somebody can find an engine down there for me.

The old head is junk THOR. Valves aren't supposed to be square, are they? Well, #6 exhaust is!

I threw some Rislon in it for now, we'll se how it does on the way to work tomorrow. If it at least slows down the oil burning, I'll keep it going. I still need to find a new commuter though...

hey Eric W my brother's shop is in edmonds (south seattle) if we can get ur car there we can toss him a minimal fee (just a few bucks cause he slamed and he is busy cause we will take away a lift and other hardware from him ) we can borrow a bay & tools and we can get some guys to come up ( me included ) and we can werk it out. just an offer. i'll do anything for u guys and if i can help in anyway count me in!

www.car-part.com shows a couple juicy options if you search on an engine for an '83 Dodge Truck D-150 and restrict the search to Washington. This would be a late (hydraulic lifter) engine, of course.

When my engine went out two years ago do the collapsed oil filter, Doc mentioned that these guys in Spokane were good. I almost went this route but wanted to keep my old motor. So I rebuild it.

A 7 year warranty that these guys off is not bad though! It would sure speed up the process if you picked up one of these motors. Give them a call and explain your situation. They were super nice to me!
