Doug, there use to be a dual sidedraught adapter that would fit a standard Holley 4bbl pattern and orientate the carbs opposite of each other but feed into a common plenum.I saw one just recentley in a street rod magazine but cant remember who makes it or if it is still even in production. If you can find a single sidedraught carb that would feed a 225 ,this seems like a good setup and the carbs could be installed fore and aft,or side to side and hood clearance shouldnt be a problem.
I will check through my old magazines and see if I can find any info.
This?

It is always a challenge to try-out some of these ideas with-out spending a bunch of $$$... so based on the Cortez "side entry" design, I pulled-out an old aluminum 1 bbl intake I had and cut open the side.

Based on SSDan's description of a deflector plate that these manifold used, I went with 2 holes instead of one large opening... and left a contoured center "deflector", which hopefully will spread-out the incoming A/F flow from a second carb.

Now I need to sort thru my box of aluminum "bits" to see if I can make up a plenum and carb mounting base.

Looks like you need to get yourself into port EFI, my friend...

I like the Offy 2X1 myself. Never had much trouble keeping it in tune.

Even if it does not work well, it will look impressive... with the 2 carbs at 90 degree angles to each other, wild stuff.

Yeah, those things are a PITA to tune. DCOE type carbs are meant to feed one cylinder. When they are mounted to a plenum the metering goes out the window. I'd only try it if I were a real masochist with a wideband and plenty of money for lots of jets and emulsion tubes.

And my wife wonders why I save all "this stuff"....
My box full of aluminum scraps did me well... some 1 1/4 x .125 wall tubing and a old cast aluminum pipe cap and I can mock-up a dual 1 bbl.
I do not have anything that has the 1 bbl crab mounting bolt pattern but I did have a 2 bbl plate... that got me thinking about making the mounting large enough to mount either carb type.

Here is what one idea looks like. (see photos below)
So far... about 4 hours of my time and $0.00 out of pocket money but now I need to "talk" my way onto a TIG machine and do a bunch of aluminum welding.

How about the two barrel being the primary carb and the one barrel being the staged carb? That way the main carb gets the long runner benefit...

Looking very cool 8) It looks like air/fuel is going shoot right down the middle runners, even with the deflectors . Maybe a small hump behind them for some turbulence. But then again I know nothing. :)

That is an interesting look.

Has anyone tried the progressive 2 bbl. that came on the early 70's Mercury Capri 2.8 V6? I believe it was a Holley but I forgot the number. I don't know that it would support a 3.7 L but I would think the 170 crowd might benefit. That reminds me, 17's in the 1/4 mile then used to feel "peppy". Now we diss Mopar's 3.5 V6 for having "only" 250 HP, a number a 1993 Cobra Mustang couldn't attain.

Looks like a "Rube Goldberg" design if you ask me!! Wire it together with pipe cleaners and duct tape.

Doc, sorry I caught this thread too late to help. I have a Cortez manifold with a working YH carb that I'm not using at the moment. I'm not sure I want to give it up permanently because I'm afraid California law makers will decide one day that older vehicles will be subject to smog rules and I'll have to remove my Weber, but I be glad to loan it to you if you wanted to try that style.

One of our Cortez group members posted a picture of a dual carbs set-up with this manifold. Here's what it looked like:

I think your idea would work better though.

That would be the Holley 5200. It is okay for a stock slant, but the airflow is just too small for anything modified.
