I do want to point you to somthing most seem to miss. If you don't know how old the upper/lower radiator hoses are, replace them. I see your upper one is kinda bent wierd. I had a cooling prob, and it turned out one of the hoses was constricting under acceleration. I sware those hoses were orig.

Here is what the later 5 plug block looks like. What year did they change that anyway?

67~68? Somewhere in there I think. Along with most of the other changes that took place for the 67 model year.

I just replaced both radiator hoses last week as well as a tune-up. (everything except the points) the top hose just has a slight kink in it, because I had to cut it for it to fit better, before it kinked completely. The car runs fine with it. it runs between 130-140.

130-140 degrees Fahrenheit? That's a bit too cold. You will get better power and economy by running at least 160. What thermostat do you have.. if one at all?

Its the one in the dash that was purchased with the car, so It might be off a little.

Or it could be I havnt really been out driving it more than 30-40 minutes, since my mom doesnt like taking me out driving. So I guess ive never really driven it when its warmed up. (I only have my permit)

Lucky you! I never got to drive my car with only my permit!

In 30-40 min it should be warmed up. Mine warms up in cool weather in about 10 min idle, 5 min driving with a 180 deg thermastat. (switching to 195 soon) Maybe you should replace your thermostat with a new 195 degree one, and see what happens.

the steel spring coil in your lower radiator hose was likely missing, whoever changed the hoses didnt bother to install one. did you? it keeps the hose from collapsing.

no, that is your temperature gauge. your THERMOSTAT sits under the water outlet bolted to the top front of the engine, where the upper rad hose connects. this is more or less what it looks like, about 2" in diameter,

insert it spring side first into your engine. 180, 195*, whatever. you need one.

your car should not take more than ten minutes to reach operating temperature. change your oil right now and install a thermostat. draining the radiator and the engine block both of antifreeze, is also a good idea so there is no tired antifreeze taking up space.

Yep, good advice here. You'll want to rework that top radiator hose so it no longer has any kink in it. Most lower rad hoses aren't coming with coils inside them any more; they claim to have revised the hose construction technique so it's no longer needed. I sometimes believe this and sometimes don't. You definitely do want a thermostat; 195° is a good choice for wintertime operation.

Also, go and buy these three books right away.

When I replaced my lower hose I pulled the spring out of the old one and pushed it into the new hose. I don't trust the wireless hose and the spring was in great shape so why not.

Yep, my old hose didn't have that spring, but the new one does. The lower hose for some reason did not have one though. It was the top hose that was constricting, not the bottom. It was also kinked a little like 72Duster08's.

I was going to do that, but the spring inside the old hose was so badly Coroded and brittle.
