Yes I to would be interested in the purpose of the thick spacer and its construction ,dose it some how compensate for the diferential expansion between exhaust and intake manifolds and somehow maintain a consistant seal while allowing the intake runners too stay cool independant of the exhast? I'm still new to all of this but I do know that connecting the manifolds to a/6 is a pain in the #&$!! I'm not going for allout HP just looking for a better dayly driver that snorts as it passes $30,000 urban asault veicles (U.A.V.'s) magicalbus@hotmail.com |

: Has anyone considered MIKUNI motorcycle carbs?
I think the ADVANTAGES are: 1. cheaper than webers (based on eBay research) 2. could set up with 3 one barrels or 6 one barrels 3. each carb has a choke 4. should work based on 4 carbs supplying a 900 cc motorcycle engine at 10,000-12,000 rpm, therefore my 3700 cc slant six at 5000 rpm should be fed just fine with 3 large Mikunis or 6 small Mikunis 5. I would guess easily sourced tuning parts based on current use in crotch rocket motorcycles 6. sidedraft design therefore one less air flow bend compared to normal downdraft carb 7. looks really really trick to pop open the hood and stare at all that linkage and carbs 8. better fuel distribution based on each cylinder or pair of cylinders has its own carb 9. varying sizes of Mikunis means a small carb can maintain high velocity airflow for good street driveability 10. I looked at British SU carbs, I think they would be a tuning nightmare based on availability of about 350 fuel metering rods. DISADVANTAGES: 1. custom intake (make from 3/8" steel plate and round header tubing heated and squared at mainifold side perhaps?) 2. the ever present custom linkage setup 3. no idea how to set up kickdown linkage for an automatic transmission 4. having to buy 3 or 6 of everything (tuning stuff, air filters) 5. balancing air flow on 3 or 6 carbs 6. the only carb heat setups I can suggest are heated air intake (ugly) or water heated intake (complex) Whew! When one is reluctant to spend cash, one tends to spend a lot of time on this website and eBay daydreaming of the possibilities.... Post subject: | Re: Manifold "Spacer" on Goodman's Hilborn Set-up |
I think the reason behind the thick spacer is to help raise the intake ports while also providing a nice sold base to press and weld runner tubes into. |
