Yep, that's an F-body BH bracket, like so:

Image

I have no clue what that extra pivot point is for either. :P

That's very close. The key points are probably the same. The tongue of the extension was shorter on mine, but the bend started later, so the hole is probably in the same place.

OK, somebody out there tell us what the extra doo-dad is for. A place to mount a ... ?

There's another threaded hole in my bell higher up. To swing the stud forward I'm putting a slot in the top "corner" to bolt into that third hole. I cut the tongue off so I could get a wrench to that bolt.

Thanks

If your bellhousing came out of a car, it may have the wrong clutch fork pivot. I just conquered that situation on my 64, and there was no way to get everything lined up with that pivot. A truck pivot (thanks again rock!) improved things immensely.
Could you describe the actual difference between these fork pivots? Was the "better" one angled differently, taller, shorter, higher or lower in the bell?

Thanks

One is a ball stud, the other a flat/blade type pivot.

Here is the blade type pivot bracket which bolts to the inside of the BH:

To add to the confusion, here's a pic of a V-8 O.D. BH from an '85 van with the pivot stud in place:

Shows what I know. I didn't know any of these Mopars had ball posts under the fork. Both my '65 and the '76 the tranny bell comes from are "blade." I thought the subject was blade variation.

Thanks

In this picture, you can just make out the two-fingered clip which keeps the clutch fork tight to the ball stud pivot:

This fork is also from an '85 van, but a V-8 rather than a /6.

Blade style pivots come in (at least?) "two flavors".
The 76 A-body one I tried to use had the fulcrum point lower than the 84 truck style that I had used on my 65. I ended up getting another "truck " style blade from rock for the 64.
With the "car" pivot, the clutch fork hung down too low for good z-bar geometry, not to mention ruining exhaust clearance.
I have a picture of the two pivots on my cell phone (although upside down - duh) but I have no idea how to move it to the site. I can send it to someone's phone if anyone wants to handle it.

rock, I only ended up using the pivot and didn't compare bells. i was able to change it without removing the bellhousing, and it brought everything into alignment.
Also, I ended up modifying the bh stud on both installs, as you have done Ross. I actually used the truck frame bracket on the 65!

OK, I think you're talking about the fork slanting down pretty steeply (as mine does). And you're saying that with a different blade you got the angle set higher so the end of the fork is considerably higher.

Was that purely a matter of a different part? Is there only one pair of mounting holes? (I can't look right now because the tranny is in the car.)

I'd like to see those. I don't even have a cell phone, so I can't help with transfer.

Thanks

Yes, the fork hung down way too low, such that the z-bar was angled so far it was binding on the studs.
Both pivots use the same (only) set of holes in the bellhousing. The truck style blade is very close to the top mounting hole, whereas the other blade is more centered between the holes.
The difference is only 1/2-3/4" at the fulcrum point, but it makes a big difference at the end of the fork.
The pivot that pink posted is a different style than these two I have; the mounting holes are much farther apart than what is shown in that picture, so that's a third (perhaps older?) style altogether.

If you can't find one, you could reweld the one you have as a last resort.
The pivot can be R&R'd with the trans installed.

Thanks. Yeah, I wondered about the short distance between holes. Mine are farther apart too, which should make redoing it much easier.

Thanks

The following are photos of the modified BH pivot point, Z Bar, and Adjustment rod modifications needed to adapt the A833 to my 66 Dart. We also had to modify the exhaust near the Transmission Cross member to allow for the reverse rod. Everything else was a direct bolt-in once we removed the old A230.

After a long and forced absence I'm back working on the Valiant. I want to thank you and everybody for the excellent answers, and the posted pictures. I just printed out the whole thread to put in a notebook.

I may have found a useful pivot at Brewers,

http://www.brewersperformance.com/products.asp?cat=103 (the one at the bottom).

but it is not the exact same thing as in the Sixinthehead picture. The curvature of it would probably make the distance to the center of the tranny longer.

Image

The old one in the tranny is like the left one in the Sixinthehead picture, but I'm not sure that distance would have worked. I guess I need to check the distance to center to see if it needs to be longer (as well as higher) to fit this longer fork. (That would be true whether I bought from Brewer or altered the one I have.) The one at Brewers would seem to be of that ilk.

Any more comments from anyone are welcome.

Ross
