hello,
what Dan is saying is the little ledge in the corresponding place at the front of the block to the arrowed point in your pic.
sometimes the stamping is really faint and needs a keen eye and good light to see.

You know to look for the numbers up at the top of the block, right where it meets the head, and not down at or near the oil pan rail, right?
Yes. I do know. I will disassemble and clean up and take more pictures tomorrow.

OK you need to look right here for the number, but not from the side. Look down on that pad from the TOP. it will be stamped into the same surface the head gasket sits on. do you see it now?

just so we are clear on this, the place you should be looking is the flat surface in the same plane as the top of the block, not the side of the block.

that shows why its stamped into the top, so a tech doing PDI on the car can record the engine number without unbolting anything.

As best as I can tell it looks like ... 5225 1 2 19

Does any one have a chart that breaks down the codes that I can find online? So that I can find out what the first 5 and the 19 mean? I know it is a 225 and it was manufactured January 2nd.
