The rotor does turn like it should. I was talking with Ceej today, and I think what I will do first before I tear it down, is check to make sure there isn't any play in the rotor shaft. It would really frustrate me if there is, because D.I. just got that dizzy setup for SL6Bob, and I would hate to tell him the car ate it... in which case, I think a new cam would be in order... if not a few other things as well. We'll see... ~THOR~ |

we disconnected two of the blue wires from the feed side of the ballast because they lost power when we tried to start, then we jumped from the battery to the ballast and then the ballast just fed the coil like it normally would. after that it started and it wouldn't run with the key on, it would only fire and start acc and off, it loses spark in "On" we put the points dizzy into it instead of the EI and the EI module is disconnected. so what would cause this to happen? is the ignition switch bad? |

sounds to me like a bad Ballasteither grab a ballast you know is good and try it or jump it with a piece of wire to check |

are you sure the ballast can cause this type of problem? not to be rude or anything it just doesn't seem right if it will run when i have it in the other positions on the ignition. |

check the connection in the main harness that runs all side the top pan, the solider join of blue wires the go to the altenator, volt regulator and the power to the coil (brown wire). you have a bad wire . |

rotor is turning fine, it runs just only when in certain positions on the ignition.

You need fuel, compression, and spark. So you have to diagnose it. Look down teh carb and pump the gas. If fuel squirts from the acc pump, you got fuel. pull a plug and ground it, then crank witht he key. If it sparks, you got that. If you can hear the compression coming out of that open plug hole, you got compression. After what you describe, the ballast is bad as they said. The ignition switch bypasses the resistor in the "start" position and runs thru it on the run side. If you think it's bad, make a jumper wire and connect the two spade connectors that connect to it. It will run at that point, and get you off the road if one pops while you're driving. |

the car runs, as stated above all i have to do is jump from the ballast to the battery and if i crank in the normal position and move back to another position it runs. i have another ballast that i know is good so im going to try that. im also going to be checking wires as i suspect its a short/bad connection |

have you tried another ingition switch, is the switch sending power to the ballast in the crank postion? |

me and THOR got it fixed today. one of the main problems wound up being a bad coil, another issue was the coil wire from the firewall connector wasn't hooked up. also we completely disconnected the wires that were still on the coil from the EI unit and it fired right up. had to put a backing plate back on it so it wouldn't vibrate the dizzy out of time. once we did that she ran just fine. drove good too. all i need to do know is drive it a bunch, get a new positive terminal connector for the battery cable and run all the old gas out of it. finally after almost 6 months its back on the road. well technically. i have to wait until monday to drive it because i have to put insurance back on it. but i managed to sneak it around the block with THOR to make sure it was ok. thanks everyone for the help and suggestions. oh and once we get a new pick up coil in the EI dizzy its going back in and my electronic ignition is getting another go. |
