My sister used to have an 83 Olds Cutlass Ciera. It had the 2.8 six cylinder motor (or maybe it was a 3.0) and it had a factory A/F charge heater under the carb. It had a wire mesh across both throttle bores and plugged in. THat car got good gas mileage and performed well.

I'm game to play with this on a slant six, or 318 for that matter.

Chevettes had a ceramic grid heater under the carb back in the 80's. I think it was mostly to mask fuel mixing problems and to help with the cold start emissions cycle.

I don't think it was ever really a good idea.

Early 80's Escort/Lynx with the weber 2 Barrel had a similar heater under the carb.
