Dan, After rewiring the engine circuits and replacing the stock connectors with new ones, battery cables, etc. I still had low voltage at 600 rpm with a new rebuilt alternator. It was fine at 750 rpm. So I started experimenting with various brands of voltage regulators. Good advice for all of us running stock. I do carry a spare regulator, ECU and resistor just in case....... |

Quote: I'm not sure they're telling you the truth. Echlin was bought by Standard Motor Products a few years ago, and the last time I bought a VR-38 (2 months ago) it was American-made. There might be some funny business going on at your local NAPA. On the other hand, even if what the counterman told you were true, how did you not notice "Made in China" on the back of the regulator before you installed it…?
The first Echlin I bought had "Made in U.S.A." on it, so I figured the next one I bought would have the same thing and I never looked, untill I took it off to take it back. It came in an Echlin box, and has a Napa Echlin sticker on it. I hate my Napa, they just put the returned parts back on the shelf. The guy tried to give me the VR that I returned 3 months ago! I made him order me a new one.I just sent an email to the guy at Old Car Parts Northwest, so hopefully I will be able to get one. I would get mine rebuilt, but its $60 bucks and they only have a 30 day guarentee. |
