Hey Geek, how far do you want to tow to get one home?

Probably not to NC. On the other hand if you know of one that's rust free, no significant body damage and a minimum of dings, no sun roof, and nice shiny red or black paint for under $500 I might think about it.

Well, we're having an alphanumeric sale down here! MX-6, RX-7, TR-7, 280Z - WE'VE GOT THEM ALL!

Sorry, I got carried away there...

There are 2 2nd-gen MX-6's (1 silver, 1 red), and a 2nd-gen RX-7 (red) in the local yard. Titles are questionable, but I can find out, and if it's a race car anyway...

Dad has an 80 TR-7 (white) that needs a home, and possibly a 75(?) 280Z (black, not ZX) shell, both w/titles.

I'm pretty sure I can set you up with any of the above for WELL under 5 bills.

There seem to be plenty of possibilities closer to home. I thought maybe you knew of a particular one that was in exceptional condition. I don't want to go to junk yards yet, there seems to be quite a few in people's garages or back yards with some sort of mechanical problem.

For a brand X drag car I'd be leaning toward a 240Z if you can find one that isn't rusty. They are light and have big engine compartments.

Another possibility might be a Eclipse/Talon AWD. Lose the front drive ....

They are very Aero. The import drag guys go RWD /powerglide .

They weigh 3200 stock 2500 race. Lots available with drivetrain woes.

They have a good size shaft tunnel because of the FWD/transfercase/rear driveshaft configuration.

Excellent parralel A arm rear suspension and rear disc brakes

Good support for parts from import drag guys.

Comes with intercooler.....

Thanks for the idea about the Eclipse Sandy, I'll look around to see what's available and if I like them. I am affraid that like the MX-7, that I like the recent models better than the old ones. Isn't the wheelbase pretty short too? I would like to have something in the 105" area. Of course there is always the Merill Bruner stretch, but it would sure simplify things if you didn't have to do that.

I used to subscribe to all the import racing magazines where you used to see some really wild ideas but when they went to drifting and bikins I lost interest. Isn't that a bummer?

Joshie, I agree the Z makes a lot of sense but it just doesn't do anything for me. I keep thinking of Paul Newman.

Liking the car is important. For example I wish I had a /6 Dart hardtop rather than my Valiant post, but the Valiant was too good to pass up. Maybe I should pull the V8 out of my '72 Dart and return it to slant power? I had a '71 240Z and the low weight was obvious and welcome.

Anyhow, if you got an Eagle Talon body you could run Mopar only events. They are shorter wheelbase than you want. The interior head room for 6' tall me is fine until I put on my helmet. The helmet hits the roof on the left. A roll cage would make this worse of course. A narrow racing seat on the floor would be needed with a full cage.
