Quote: It's going to be very difficult to find efficiency numbers for aftermarket torque converters. One thing is generally true. To maintain, or at least not drastically lose, efficiency the torque converter generally needs to be smaller as the stall speed is increased. If your engine will not idle smoothly below 1000 RPM I'd be looking at 9.5" and 10" torque converters.
You need to call PTC. The later trans has the larger input shaft. I forget the spline count.

Ya I wasn't really ready to spend that much either the first two times around with other converter companies. One thing that I liked is the stall was right when I had the 240@50 cam and then I changed the cam to the 222@50 and they adjusted the stall and I was right then too. Both converter from FTI drove on the street nicely and stalled where I wanted on the track. The way I look at it is if you end up having to remove the converter just one time, its worth the extra $150 to get it right the first time. I called your FTI guy. He is talking SR series 26-2700 stall for $480 + shipping... A wee bit more than I want to spend on that device. Your engine numbers are impressive 230 hp & 300 ft lb is about what the Commando 273 V8 makes in factory trim. I have no $ interest in FTI by the way. I am the type of person that will tell everybody about a part/service that I think is great. |
