http://www.up22.com/duster70.htm#top fiborglass saves weight and improves mpgs

the plymouth feather duster was a light weght car geared for good milage and i think they did get good milage. right?

also under drive pullys check jegs part #655-10012

a good high flow air cleaner, proper tire inflation, electronic ignition, super six intake for more flow over stock i think we could build a 30 mpg car

You need to read the thread on Moparts about the super duper mileage experiment. Dave got 29mpg with a 318 in a 68 Cuda coupe. I have ridden in this car. Dave did his homework!

From Wikipedia (yeah, I know, great source :P )

"Aerodynamics is a branch of dynamics concerned with studying the motion of air, particularly when it interacts with a moving object. "

So AEROdynamics is for ALL objects, not just 'planes.

I would LOVE to get 29 MPG in my 5th Ave! I will have to go find that thread too....

Found it! http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/sho ... =0&fpart=3

It wasn't a "lightweight car" it used light weight components to make up for the government crash items like the bumper shocks, the crash panel in the doors, etc... the 1976 Feather Duster weighs as much as her non-crash standard 1971-1972 bretheren. The MPG maker for the duster is the use of an OD manual transmission, a tall rear gear (2.94:1), bigger EGR to knock back ping, a distributor that gives you all the vacc. advance from off idle to 5"hg manifold reading...and the use of a 9R short slot distributor with 12 BTDC initial timing...(so lots of timing...lots of gear...)

People on highway cruises have gotten between 30 and 34 mpg, depending on terrain and driving style.

You just have to find a combination that works best for the engine, carburator throttle plate position, max. manifold vacc...etc, and not driving a brick through the atmosphere...

Thanks for posting that link! That thread has some serious discussion on getting the max MPG out of an engine. Thanks for pointing us to that thread Rug_Trucker!

Dave was not using skinny tires either.

BTW he is trying to sell that engine. He left TN in August and now lives in Kalispell MT.

Nope, the bracing under hood was. There was some light weight stff around the bumper brackets etc.

Post subject:  Yep...

It just was enough to shave some weight off...a '67-'69 valiant would weight in even less....

Aluminum parts for the Feather Duster/Dart Lite:
Bracing under hood lid and trunk lid (as production went into the 1976 year some cars didn't get "both" lids, some were assembled as one or the other.
Intake manifold
Manual Tranny Case
Bumper Reinforcements
