Quote: The plan is to swap a dakota 81/4 355 gear set into an 8/14 diff from a fifth ave.
As long as the Dakota rear is <'97 (It must be, if it is a 5 lug) the carriers, etc will swap. If the Dakota (or Cherokee even) rear is 97+, the gearset would still swap, using the 5th Avenue carrier (there again; another "as long as") the 5th Avenue already has a gear 2.71+;96/97 was a break point where they changed the axle spline count so the side gears, would obviously be different. You may have to remove the exciter ring for the ABS to put taht carrier into the older 5th Ave housing; which is OK since 5th's did not have ABS anyway; BUT if there is clearance in the 5th's housing, leaving the exciter ring on there, will not hurt a thing. I have that exact same setup going on for my Volare'. 76-77 8-1/4 housing, Dakota gearset and (brand new) Sure Grip for a Dakota. Still not assembled/set-up yet, though. |

I'm glad to hear that. As soon as I get them apart and they look good I'll get the brg #'s and pass them along. They say the crush sleeve is less expensive directly from mopar than from say Napa? |
