| Post subject: | UPDATE found what I need FYI |
In case anyone else runs into this situation; on this starter if you break the plastic off you will find it goes "into" the starter (like I thought) I went junking a couple days last week; everything I found was either (1) already missing (you know how junkyard people remove parts; cut-snip-hack) or (2) not the right plug or (3) basically inaccessible to tell; I checked out LH cars minivans and a couple 2000+ B vans which, all had their engines/trannys missing and some Grand Cherokees and came up empty; The solution? I guess theres some sort of "retro fit kit" to be able to wire up this 2000-2003 spec starter available from Mopar; somewhere around $14-18ish, (cheap considering that I got this new starter for free) No PN yet or description, til it arrives Tues. At this point IDK if its just that pigtail, or what. |

I have a starter like this too. I have not found the factory connector, but I do have the correct fitting crimp connector. It is a weatherpak terminal, you can get them in small packs without the plastic plugs. I am just going to crimp and solder it to a new wire, put a little vasaline on it and plug it in. It can be sealed with silicone after that which will also hold the wire on. This could be a pigtail that attaches to the factory wire so any other style starter can be swapped out. I'm just trying to keep it simple. |

I got the "starter wiring adapter wiring kit" from the stealership parts counter today. A pigtail ~6" long with the weatherpak connector+ a pc of Shrink Wrap+ a "splice band (a "V" shaped piece of brass about 1/2" square to splice it to the OE "Sol" wire, and an inst sheet that tells the Miller tool number for "their" crimp tool. Personally I prefer soldering. I certainly would not pay $19. for it (MSRP) but for "employee" price (I know a few) I got it for ~2/3 that; MSRP is a rip as far as this pigtail is concerned; but then compared to what the starter lists for (and being that I wound up with that for free In case anyone's interested; the Mopar PN is; 5014098 AD |

These jap starters are fine, IMO. Just be sure and stay far away from the china made starters- They have cheap casings that crack. |

I got the pigtail from wermopar.com for about 14.00. I also bought a dipstick for the Dakota at the same time. Shipping for both items was 10.00. |
