Dave why only bore to .030 over? To unshroud the OS valves (you have planed for OS valves right) I would not go less than .060 over. And .105 is easy with the K1/ Wiseco combination. Just food for thought, Frank |

Frank, I'm a little leary about going .105 over on a bore. It's that old school mentality. .060 would keep me in my comfort range. Dave |

Bore/Overbore should have nothing to do with mentality, its should be about the condition of the block/how much meat it has. Must be a chevy guy, I would be scared to go .060 on a 350 aswell |

The problem with over-boring that far is it doesn't net much. If I were to bump my 248" Stroker out from 3.445" to 3.5" bore, it would become a 256" engine. That ain't a lot. Eight cubic inches. I have more meat for future rebuilds, should I do something nasty to a cylinder wall or two. Something to think about when building more power into the 'ol grocery getter. Unmasking the valves is the part that makes it worthwhile. Go to .060" and you should be good. If your going to Ford Valves, mock everything up first. .060" is minimum without some adjustments to valve diameter, and possibly bore notching. There still may be some additional machine work needed to make things right. I hung the exhaust valves on cylinder walls 4, 5 and 6 due to where the combustion chamber was positiioned over the bores. The dowls were slightly off. Check everything when you start making modifications of this sort! CJ |

CJ is right. I have the Ford 300 valves in 2 heads and .060 is close. You can get (and I have) .080 pistons and rings for the slants. and I am seeing the Wiseco/K1 .085 with the metric(thin) ring packs as a great build if you dont want to go the .105 route. I want my engines to last and not every block will last with a .105 build so thats why I requested the .085 . My02. Frank |

.105 over is ok except if you encounter a problem. I would prefer to be able to use the block again in that instance. I suppose the arguement could be made that if the failure is servere enough, .060 or .105 won't make a difference. But as I said, I am somewhat conservative and tend to error on the side of caution. That's the great thing about bracket racing though...speed is of little consequence. Fun yes, but I prefer to think I could get 1500 passes without rebuilding with a little less machining. As far as being a wuss, your probably right. I am sorry to hear though your car will only do 55mph. |
